Org. Setting and Reporting


The ESCAP-APDIM intern positions is based in Tehran and Remote.

Statistics interns typically report to the Director. APDIM internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the organization.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours).

Responsibilities


Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

-Provide research assistance to members of the team on various issues (various issues include disaster risk reduction, environment, statistics, innovative technologies, GIS, among others).

-Research, compile, process and present data.

-Prepare updates for the APDIM website.

-Conduct general research related to disaster risk management in the Asian and Pacific region.

-Support the organization of inter-governmental meetings, which may include drafting memos, contacting meeting participants, creating spreadsheets, maintaining calendars, and other administrative tasks.

-Carry out other tasks as requested.

- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Education


To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

- Applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent);

- Applicants who have graduated (as defined in (a) or (b) above), if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Work Experience


No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages


English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
