Org. Setting and Reporting   

 

 

 

The internship position is with the UN Library at Geneva in support of the Information Technology team.

 

 

 

The internship will last a maximum of 6 months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

 

 

 

Interns work five (5) days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the Section.

 

Responsibilities   

 

 

 

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individuals background. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

 

 

 

-Support the development, implementation and maintenance of specific applications projects and tools.

 

-Provide support on security, data integrity and recovery questions.

 

-Assist with business analysis of software applications, and with user needs assessments.

 

-Assist in improving the existing tools and applications.

 

-Provide support on software and hardware systems applications.

 

-Assist in installation and maintenance of software and hardware systems applications.

 

-Support the management of users and assets.

 

-Support the management and maintenance of Library servers.

 

-Participate in the preparation and update of teams and user documentation.

 

-Participation in training activities, including the preparation of training materials.

 

-Assist in researching, testing and evaluating new products and technologies.

 

-Perform other duties as required.

Education   

 

 

 

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

 

-Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

 

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Information and Technology Sciences will be an advantage; (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelors level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;

 

-Be computer literate in standard software applications; proficiency in HTML, CSS and/or Drupal, and/or elementary programming skills is desirable;

 

-Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

 

-Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

 

 

 

Languages   

 

 

 

Fluency in French or English and knowledge of the other is required.
