Task Title: INTERN-SCOP24-Adaptation of ASTRA plasma simulator for standardized interface data structures
Domain: Science & Operation
Department: Science,Controls & Operation
Section: Plasma Modeling and Analysis
Duration (in months): 6 months
Location: France, 13067 St Paul Lez Durance Cedex
Description of tasks:
ASTRA is a modular and flexible plasma simulator that is used extensively for ITER physics studies. Adapting it to pass standardized interface data structures (IDSs) through its interfaces will greatly facilitate integrated modelling with other physics codes within ITER's Integrated Modelling & Analysis Suite (IMAS). Therefore, this internship will be focused on the adaptation of the ASTRA plasma simulator.
Task 1: Become familiar with Integrated Modelling & Analysis Suite (IMAS) and plasma scenario database
Task 2: Become familiar with ASTRA plasma simulator and its data representation
Task 3: Contribute to adapting ASTRA to exchange data using standardized Interface Data Structures (IDSs)
Task 4: Carry out a simulation of an ITER plasma using ASTRA and another IMAS component, such as the IMAS workflow describing ITER's heating and current drive systems
The ITER Organization offers internship opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate students with the objective of providing these students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study, whilst collaborating in an international, scientific and multicultural environment. Internships are offered for up to six months, extendable for up to one year (depending on the category). To find out more about our internship program, please refer to our website (click here)
For any further questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Internship opportunities are limited to nationals from countries participating in the ITER Project (China, the European Union plus Switzerland, India, Japan, Korea, Russian Federation, and the United States).
Please also note that interns are not considered staff members and shall, therefore, not have the status of "Staff" as per the ITER Agreement and the Headquarters Agreement (see more information on these constitutive agreements in Legal Resources). Neither the ITER Staff Regulations nor the privileges and immunities granted to ITER Organization staff are applicable to interns. The ITER Organization salary, pension scheme, and social insurance coverage do also not apply.
