Task Title: INTERN-SCOP25-Adaptation of TORBEAM code for Electron Cyclotron Heating&Current Drive modelling
Domain: Science & Operation

Department: Science,Controls & Operation
Division: Science

Section: Plasma Modeling and Analysis
Duration (in months): 6 months
Location:
France, 13067 St Paul Lez Durance Cedex
Description of tasks:

This internship will be focused on modifying the input and output management of the TORBEAM code to model Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ECRH) and Current Drive (ECCD) to enable its integration inside the ITER IMAS Integrated Modelling and Analysis Suite.

Task 1: Getting familiar with ITER Integrated Modelling and Analysis Suite by following the provided training material
Task 2: Getting familiar with the TORBEAM code, i.e with the physics of ECRH and ECCD covered by the code (reading associated publications) and to be able to run the standalone version of TORBEAM
Task 3: Change the management of input and output variables so that TORBEAM adopts the IMAS standard. Therefore, it can be integrated inside the IMAS platform, especially inside the Heating and Current Drive (H&CD) workflow for H&CD modelling in the context of a global ITER scenario simulation
Task 4: Apply the tool by simulating ECRH and ECCD in scenarios of the ITER Research Plan

The ITER Organization offers internship opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate students with the objective of providing these students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study, whilst collaborating in an international, scientific and multicultural environment.  Internships are offered for up to six months, extendable for up to one year (depending on the category).  To find out more about our internship program, please refer to our website (click here)

For any further questions, please contact internships@iter.org

Internship opportunities are limited to nationals from countries participating in the ITER Project (China, the European Union plus Switzerland, India, Japan, Korea, Russian Federation, and the United States).

Please also note that interns are not considered staff members and shall, therefore, not have the status of "Staff" as per the ITER Agreement and the Headquarters Agreement (see more information on these constitutive agreements in Legal Resources).  Neither the ITER Staff Regulations nor the privileges and immunities granted to ITER Organization staff are applicable to interns.  The ITER Organization salary, pension scheme, and social insurance coverage do also not apply.
