Org. Setting and Reporting
The internship is in the Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC) and is for an initial period of four months, with possibility of extension, depending on the Office’s needs. This internship will primarily be in the Office of the Director of the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD), and may also assist with the Staffing, Diversity and Outreach Section in the Strategic Talent Management Service to work on the promotion of geographic balance and addressing un and under representation. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Office.
The Office of Human Resources will champion, drive, and support a results-oriented and risk-aware culture of continuous learning and accountability by:
-shaping an enabling organizational culture in the United Nations Secretariat
-improving and enhancing the development, implementation, application and coordination of human resources management strategies, policies and programmes
-enabling the development of a competent, diverse, adaptable and healthy workforce with the highest standards of efficiency, competence and integrity, giving due regard to geographic representation and gender balance
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and on the projects of the Divisions. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
o Assist on admin projects within (example included)
Recruiting/staffing: Assist in the outreach, screening, and interview process of OHR GSPD interns
Budgeting: Assist in the analysis of budget information and preparation of budget documents
HR Policy: Review and research historic HR policies, and consolidate staff responses to audits
Coordinating events such as meetings, training and information sessions.
-Analytics and Intelligence Support
Researching, compiling, analyzing information relevant to the projects and activities performed by the Division, including Correspondence, procurement, IT Inventory, etc.
Contributing ideas to processes, deliverables and activities performed by the Division.
-Documentation and Design
Managing infographics, and graphic materials.
Document processing, including drafting, editing and proofreading.
Speaks and writes clearly and effectively-Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; Asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; Tailors language, tone, style and format to match the audience; Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in Human Resources Management, Business or Public Administration or related area; or
(c) Have graduated with a university degree as defined in (a) and (b) above and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
(d) If pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree in Human Resources Management, Business or Public Administration or related area.
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment scanner, printer, etc.).
3. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.
4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Previous experiences are not required for this position. However, knowledge of culture and experience in un- and under-represented countries is an advantage. They should be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office), and a fast learner on other applications such Visio, etc as well as file hosting services (such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Sharepoint); have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideas of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact in a multicultural environment.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
